Drunx and Diets

Hello all - I am told that I gained some new readers... welcome to the drama that is my life.

Stay tuned for Friday as this weeks' Hits of the Week (H.O.T. Week) is gonna be great, I've even been given some song suggestions to go in the "top 10 in no particular order" so I'll be excited to get that ready.

Speaking of the HOT Week, I premiered the mix of 10 on the Sunday Drunx Show this past weekend, which I will start doing every weekend. You can find S.D.S. only on DancePhoenix - page 4 of the 'house' genre on Live365.com.

The Drunx show this past week was sloppy, disorganized, and just plain old boring. My brother, who's charactor name on the show is... "brother..." was sick after his week long trip to jail last week. He did get on the air and talk a little, but his cold kept him from the mic most of the time. That left me alone... again in the studio, the home studio of DancePhoenix, and my conversation with the listeners suffered because of it. But, this next episode seems promising... I will be joining forces with my company, 3 DJs Productions, to build a new sound for the show - so over the next couple weeks some big changes will occur. Keep tuning in for updates!

With the addition of 3 DJs Productions to the Drunx show as well as DancePhoenix, the once lost radio station is now settling on a final genre mix: Hip Hop, House and Old School. Each genre represents one of us, so we can each focus on what we love. Specials and weekly shows will begin to pop up and the station will finally, after a year since inseption, be worth listening to. It will be produced and programmed by the three of us. So, special shout out to Coolstylz and K.I.D for the help, and welcome!

Now, here's what is going on with me:

Seems like everyone wants to help me. Am I really that bad? I mean I want some self improvement - but does everyone have to give me the "best way to do it...?" I asked a couple, Egle, my brother, mom and dad. But now it seems that everyone is involved. They all want to give me advice, encouragement, tell me they're proud of me - or, joke around that I'm gonna fold like a house of cards.

I'm on a diet. It's a pretty intense one and each week it will get more and more intense. Until, 5 weeks from now I'm down to only 1200 calories a day, and that's eating foods thats as healthy as possible, whilst I work my ass off at least daily. My goal is to drop 40 pounds by Christmas. A good start to the new year, a new and improved me. As I had big plans for 2006, they got put on hold to deal with this. To deal with my mind, my body.. save up some cash... it's all going to come together by the end of the year. As a reward, a trip with the guys to New York to do some sightseeing and to see my east coast friends. That includes, of course, Egle. But that trip is undefined as to when it's gonna happen. I've been doing pretty good so far, here's what I'm allowed:

- One day a week is a "splurge day," but is not to exceed 2000 calories.
- I can have Mexican food only once a week. I can't have sour cream or lots of cheese or guac unless I'm eating it on a splurge day.
- One can of soda a week.
- No beer, only clear alcohols and only a couple a week, best if only drank on a splurge day.
- 1200 Calories a week (each week counting back by 100 from 2000)
- Avoid foods that are yellow or white, which eliminates many of the fatty foods, only to eat a little a day to get necessary fats and oils a day.
- 48 to 64 oz. of water a day, two fruit servings, two veggie servings, no bread servings - 0r minimal bread servings.

I call this diet the "Egle and Mom Diet." Cause that's who made up all these rules for me. I'm also working out - starting in two weeks I have to begin running for 50 minutes every other day. Or at least SOME type of cardio for 50 consecutive minutes. I'm lifting weights for my upper body, on isolated muscle days. So, it's gonne be tough - but the end result is what I'm looking for.

Since we all now know about the diet and I've gotten several queries as to how I'm doing, I will make sure everyone stays updated.

The website - djjphoenix.com - It's a tad delayed. The "new website look" was supposed to happen this summer, which I know sounds kind of broad, but I really wanted it to be the beginning of the summer. Instead, with my current situation I haven't had any time to work on it. So I'm gonna kill a few birds with one stone. I want to enroll in some college courses to work towards a... I have no idea degree... so this next semester I will be taking a studio recording class and a web design class. So with working along side Coolstylz and his graphic arts ability, I should be able to produce a new page by the end of the year as well.

So, as we turn into the final half of 2006, I'm now working on some big changes. A new me, a new site, and new opportunities from the radio station and elsewhere. I want to ring in 2007 with a bang. I hope my close friends stick by me as sometimes I may get frustrated and/or pissed off... They all know how appreciated they are.

See you all Friday for this week's HOT Week... and don't forget the Sunday Drunx Show on DancePhoenix this weekend. You can listen to DancePhoenix ANYTIME, we play some great tunes so listen often. The Link is on the sidebar.

The Hits of the Week

In an effort to bring some more interest and entertainment to the blog, I've decided to do a new promotion. As of last Friday, I am starting what's called the Hits of the Week.

The Hits of the Week will not be just hits of today... a better name for it should be "Hits to JPhoenix, this week." It's basically any song, any time period; the only requirement being the basic principals of Justin's love for music: Good beat, good tune, makes you feel good. Based on this criteria, and the fact that J's favorite songs always changes, he will select 10 of his favorite songs for the week. With that, here's last week's Hits of the Week.

The Hits of the Week - Vol. 1 - June 16th

-- in no particular order --
  1. Return of the Mack - Mark Morrison
  2. All Night Long - Lionel Richie
  3. Give me the Night - George Benson
  4. Too Close - Next
  5. Fantastic Voyage - Coolio
  6. You Dropped a Bomb on Me - The Gap Band
  7. 1999 - Prince
  8. Hypnotize - Notorious B.I.G.
  9. Get out of my Dreams - Billy Ocean
  10. Maneater - Hall and Oats

So there ya have it. This will be posted on the sidebar every week just incase you missed the post.

I started a diet. Otherwise, there's nothing else to report.

Have a day.

Slackin'

Maybe I am that easily influenced by women.

Look, I'm gonna make a disclaimer... I don't mean to be a bitch. I can be one, cause I have like emotions and feelings and stuff. That is unlike some guys that just drink it away. I'm not big on that. So it has to release somehow. Now I have some friends that I can complain to, Egle, for one is getting the brunt of my complaints... but I don't want her to think that I'm nothing but bitchiness. I have possitive sides. In fact, I am most of the time a positive person. Simply put, because I'm usually positive - when I fall I normally fall pretty hard these days.

But that doesn't mean I can't pick myself back up.

I've had a pretty shitty rolling year. It's a shitty rolling year because while I thought the shittiness was in 2005 only, and that it would change in 2006, it didn't really... although things are really starting to improve for me, some shittiness has occured, so until that ends for good - it's a rolling year.

As for me complaining - I know exactly who reads my blog. It's obvious. All the girls in my life do: Jessica, Caitlin, Serena, and Egle. The guys could care less. So when I'm complaining, I'm really just venting indirectly to them. Maybe its because each of them at one point were a place I could go to vent... now I just say fuck it and write it for all of them to read or anyone else for that matter.

I'm getting off the point. Basically what I'm saying is just like the news - it would suck if all it was reporting on was good things. People watch because it's about the bad things that happen, some one getting shot, someone getting raped, a hit and run, a robbery. No one cares about good things - check that - they care but they would rather hear the bad things.

Just like me - sure you folks care about the good things going on in my life - and I'll be sure to give you an update every now and again, but see I feel that it's only entertaining if it's something bad happening to me, ya know? And the only reason I really NEED this blog is to vent about bad things, which makes it seem like there's always something I'm complaining about. But really I'm not. OK - everyone got it now? Let's move on to my current bitching....

I'm kidding - actually I'm gonna focus on some good things today. It's been a while since the last post that's like... what's going on in my DJ life - and since that's what this blog is for, let's do it.

I'm moving out of the parent's nest. There ya go. Now I've tried this once before, we all know what happened there, this time I'm moving in to a DJ buddy's place in North Scottsdale. He's giving me a smokin' deal too! So that should change things a bit. Plus he's a DJ, I mean you just can't go wrong there! That allows me to save up for a trip to the East Coast, my old stomping grounds - all you fans on the East side be ready to really party, I'll show you how the West Coast gets down!

Other news includes, a new mix, an updated radio station, things that are long overdue. As for the new mix, this time I'm gonna try my hand at both vinyl AND digital sounds from one mixer, yes you read that right.. I'll be mixing vinyl and CDs in this next mix. I've discovered a new sound that I like - that's not "new" by any means - but it's new to me. I'm searching for genres that speak to me, or speak for me I should say... painting the picture I want people to imagine. That picture is painted this time by Melodic Trance.

Melodic Trance, as well as similar counterparts, progressive house/trance, vocal trance, and others, will be the stepping stones to a new and improved J*Phoenix. I've been in the business now over a year and a half, and I feel better than ever and more confident behind the decks. I feel more like I can take chances, vary from the basic blends to cuts, scratches, quick mixes... I'm getting sure of my collection of music, making song choice a lot better. These are all things a full time DJ would have to worry about, I'm doing this in my spare time - sometimes I wonder... what would it be like if I did this full time... if all I did was concentrate on mixes and music and finding the hits before they're hits... working on playlists and playing gigs in clubs... damn that would rock. If I did the radio station full time... working on programming and getting ratings... these are a few of my favorite things!

But we all can't just go jumping off the cliff here... we have to have some support system. So I continue to just do this part time, in my spare time just getting on those decks and being me... I'll get there one day...

So that's the mix, look for it by the end of summer. I also mentioned the radio station, on uncensored Live365.com I've reformatted my playlists and added all new stuff. Including, of course, some trance to get you hyped up about the new mix approaching... and did someone say... sunday drunx?? That's right! FINALLY after like forever... it looks like I'll be able to get back on the air on Sunday afternoons with the drunx crew for fun and laughter. We'll be playing everything from hip hop to house and beyond so tune in Sundays to listen. Our first new show will be announced next week. You may also wanna listen during the week or check the station page... who knows when yours truley may just pop in to say hello!

What else can I talk about? I could bitch a little but I'm not gonna. She knows what's up. No need to bitch.

So I'll end it here. Happy Flag Day tomorrow.
